Resilience can be translated into the ability of a system, a supply chain or an actor to recover to its previous function, or transition to a new, more efficient function after a disruption.

The coronavirus pandemic that hit the world in 2020 was a wake-up call to how hard we can be hit by unexpected events. In addition to future pandemics and an escalating climate crisis, we see growing geopolitical tensions and a war in Europe, but also increasing organised crime, both in the physical space and online. Functioning transport is central to our society, and is of crucial importance when society is under stress.

The specialisation Resilience in the freight transport system aims to understand how the freight transport system is affected by crises and disruptions and how resilience can be created. The focus is on why actors behave as they do and why an entire industry does what it does.
