Lena Levin is a Senior Researcher in mobility, participation and justice at the unit Mobility, Actors and Planning. Over the past 20 years, she has conducted research on gender equality and diversity, particularly on impact assessments based on gender and equality, and on accessibility in public transport for people with disabilities. Lena has written several handbooks on Gender Impact Assessment (GIA) and Social Impact Assessment (SIA) for professional actors involved in transport infrastructure planning.
It is about different individuals’ right to have power and influence over their own mobility, and also about the importance of giving space in society and infrastructure planning to different modes of transport that can complement each other.
Lena is interested in how people use the transport system, how the perspectives of different actors emerge, who is included and who is excluded. It is important to include both experts’ and citizens’ knowledge in planning and to understand how different actors interact in mobile contexts.
She was a partner in the EU project TINNGO (Transport Innovation Gender Observatory), which contributed to increasing knowledge about gender equality and diversity in the transport sector in Europe.
She is now participating in the EU project MARLENE (Mobility, Accessibility, and Rhythms of Everyday Life in Towns and Neighbourhoods), which focuses on older people’s mobility and accessibility.
Lena is also affiliated with Lund University as an Associate Professor in Technology and Society, she supervises doctoral research and is active within K2, Sweden’s national centre for knowledge on collective mobility.
