At the VTI outdoor crash track, unique in the Nordic countries, we can set up large traffic environments including slopes, ditches, work zones, and prerequisites for car to car crashes, etc. Also crash tests with heavy goods vehicles and buses can be run in this laboratory environment.

The laboratory also tests perimeter protection devices according to IWA 14-1, ISO 22343-1 and TMA (Truck Mounted Attenuators) according to CEN/TS 16786:2018 as well as MASH 2016 procedures.

The propulsion system on the crash track makes it possible to replicate a collision between a truck and a passenger car, for example.

The propulsion device has the capacity to accelerate a 13 tonne heavy vehicle up to 70 km/h over a section of 95 metres. The accuracy is around ± 5 kilometres per hour.
