Robert Klar is a researcher at VTI and affiliated with Linköping University. His research focuses on how digital twins, machine learning, explainable AI and optimisation can support data-driven decision-making in complex transport systems.

His work aims to support better operational and strategic decisions by integrating data, analytical models, digital twins and AI in decision-support approaches. A central theme of his research is how these approaches can be used to improve the efficiency, sustainability and resilience of transport systems.

In his research, Robert has worked on the characterisation of digital twins in ports, assessing their maturity in complex systems and developing optimisation models for more efficient port operations. His work also includes explainable AI methods for predictive maintenance of port equipment and data-driven analyses of fuel efficiency in ferry operations.

In addition to maritime transport and logistics, Robert is interested in applying data-driven methods to urban mobility, travel demand analysis and transport planning. He is particularly interested in projects that combine operational data, optimisation, digital twins and AI to support decisions in transport systems.

Robert welcomes collaboration with researchers, public authorities and industry partners working in data-driven decision support, AI, digital twins and sustainable transport systems.
