Sara Nygårdhs is a Senior Researcher at the Human in the Transport System unit at VTI. She holds a Master of Science in Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering, as well as a PhD in Cognitive Science, with her doctoral thesis focusing on road users’ adaptive behaviour in traffic.

Sara has been with VTI since 2005 and currently works primarily on research projects related to road equipment, such as road markings and traffic signs.

Her research encompasses aspects of visibility and readability, as well as studies of road user behaviour, for example among cyclists and car drivers. The development of measurement methods also forms part of her work.

Sara has also served as project manager for several major projects, including
Evaluation of Geofencing – Driving Cycles on Test Tracks and Effects on Traffic Safety, Health and Environment, and the Nordic collaborative project Machine-readability of Road Markings in the Nordic Countries.
