Jonas has a primary background in sociology and is interested in the interaction between people and transport systems – and how an understanding of this interplay can contribute to the long-term development of transport systems in a more sustainable and accessible direction.

Jonas works across several research areas but has two main focuses:

Active mobility: How walking, cycling and public transport can be integrated into everyday life to promote sustainability and accessibility. Among other things, Jonas has studied whether, and how, emerging mobility and accessibility services in semi-urban environments can contribute to increased sustainability. In an ongoing project, he is currently exploring how active mobility can be strengthened in rural areas.

Working conditions in the transport system: In the BUSSA project, Jonas analyses bus drivers’ working conditions, their scope for action (agency), and how these conditions have changed over time. He has also conducted research on the psychosocial effects of split shifts, as well as threats and violence against bus drivers.

Methodologically, Jonas primarily works with qualitative approaches, although quantitative methods such as surveys also play a significant role.

Jonas is also active in trade union work and serves as Vice Chair of Saco-VTI.
