Jones Karlström works broadly with issues related to cycling and the conditions for cycling. Among the areas he has delved into are:

- Experiences of cycling in the dark
- Bicycle theft
Jones has also contributed to a government assignment on targets for increased cycling and represents Cykelcentrum in the National Cycling Council.
For his work on cyclists’ conditions in roadwork zones, he was awarded the Future Transport Award in the Road Security category in 2017. The jury’s motivation read:
The winner has initiated and driven the extensive work that will hopefully become the Swedish standard for how so‑called unprotected road users should be handled in connection with road construction. Safety, accessibility, and traffic‑friendliness are the key concepts when it comes to testing and classifying safety equipment.”
