Ivan Ridderstedt is a researcher at VTI, specialising in industrial organisation and welfare economics, with a focus on public sector governance and procurement. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in 2023, with a dissertation on methods for increasing cost efficiency in public procurement.

His work examines how public organisations, through their structure, governance and procurement strategies, can influence their goal attainment, productivity and cost-effectiveness, thereby contributing to greater economic efficiency. Key themes in his research include goal conflicts, incentives, monitoring, and the effects on cost and competition. His research combines econometric and qualitative analysis, focusing on public procurement of transport infrastructure and public transport.

In addition, he leads research work on the Swedish Transport Administration's cost control, focusing on the conditions for monitoring the agency's cost efficiency from a life-cycle perspective and the organisation of related development work.
