We offer a refrigerated indoor test facility in order to get less weather dependent. Our stationary tyre test facility has been developed to measure the friction properties of a tyre on ice, but can also be used with various road pavements, dry as well as wet.
VTI's tyre testing facilities can be used for:
- tyre development
- stud development
- tyre data for calculating braking distance, maximum cornering speed and skid risk for cars, buses and trucks with or without trailers
- tyre modelling for vehicle dynamics simulations and driving simulators
- future functional type testing
- consumer information.
Tyre test facility
VTI has long experience of tyre testing on both ice and wet roads. In order to get less weather dependent a refrigerated indoor test facility has been built.
At VTI's tyre testing facility braking and steering forces of truck and car tyres can be measured under closely controlled conditions. Our stationary tyre test facility has been developed to measure the friction properties of a tyre on ice, but can also be used with various road pavements, dry as well as wet.
Tyre friction (BV12)
The BV12 is a flexible measurement vehicle that is used for determining the friction properties of a tyre on real roads. The friction can be measured using a variable wheel load, slip angle, camber angle, slip or spin. The BV12 is equipped with a powerful self-supply water system which enables tests on wet and flooded pavement.
The BV12 has been used extensively since it was constructed in 1973, with purposes ranging from simpler comparisons between different tyres, to complete Magic Formula measurements for vehicle dynamic simulations.
Road friction (Saab friction tester)
The Saab friction Tester can be used for assessing the road friction on both dry, and with the aid of an onboard water tank, wet friction on roads, streets, airfields, harbours and other larger surfaces with pavement. The Saab friction tester offers controlled friction measurements in all kinds of weather.
