Vehicle technology

The development of new vehicles is subject to ever-increasing demands as regards environmental impact and safety. To satisfy these demands, intensive research and engineering and technological development are being carried on in these areas.

In our research we focus on the vehicle dynamics of track-bound and road vehicles, tyre characteristics, and evaluations of driver assistance systems and active safety systems. Research concerning energy-efficient vehicles and model-based development of built-in vehicle systems are other important areas.

In many cases it is a matter of being able to understand complex connections. In order to be able to do so, simulation is being used to an increasing extent both in industry and the research community. At VTI we develop our own world-class driving simulators and have extensive experience relating to evaluation of vehicle systems. As regards driving experience there are few simulators that can match VTI's. We also have advanced facilities for measuring road and tyre friction.
