In the field of traffic analysis VTI studies the relationship between the design of the traffic system, travel and transport demand and the prevailing traffic conditions.
We develop and apply quantitative models for analyses of traffic and transport systems. The analyses focus on impacts in terms of capacity and quality of service as well as on road safety, energy efficiency and environmental impacts. Our research in the field of traffic analysis provides thereby important input for planning and decision making.
Within traffic analysis, simulation is an increasingly important tool. VTI has developed a unique traffic simulation model for rural roads, RuTSim. We also conduct simulation based evaluation of intelligent transport systems (ITS) and driver assistance systems.
