Laboratory equipment for sale

VTI manufactures and sells a selection of laboratory equipment and spare parts. The equipment is made at VTI's mechanical workshop in Linköping. You are welcome to contact us for further information and prices.

VTI’s Prall device model 2012 is a fully automated, high quality system for road laboratory testing of cylindrical specimens of bituminous mixtures for wear of studded tyres.

The equipment is designed to meet the requirements for method A in the European standard EN 12697-16:2004 “Bituminous mixtures – Test methods for hot mix asphalt – Part 16: Abrasion by studded tyres”. The test method correlates with abrasion in the fi eld.

VTI’s Prall consists of three major units; an abrasive test machine, a water cooling and control equipment and an operation control unit. Both the Prall abrasive machine and the water cooling equipment are manoeuvred with the control unit.

The device is fully automated and user-friendly to operate. Through the control panel, all parameter of the test are operated, adjusted, controlled and registered. The default operating settings are according to the EN standard methods.

The system allows alternative operating specifi cations. Deviations from the default test parameter settings are possible for the parameters testing time, water temperature, water fl ow and the number of revolutions.

The registered data of water volume, temperature and number of revolutions are transferred to a computer by a memory stick.

According to the EN standards, the Prall test method performs the functions on specimens of 100 mm diameter and 30 mm height. The abrasive action is produced by 40 steel spheres during 15 minutes. The specimen temperature is controlled by a water fl ow of 2 l/min with a temperature of 5°C.

VTI’s bottle rolling machine is used for checking adhesion between stone and bitumen. It satisfies the requirements of the SS-EN 12697-11 standard. The machine has a capacity of simultaneous testing of 24 bottles, which correlates with tests of up to eight series of specimens at the same time. The equipment is delivered with a full set of bottles and glass rods.

VTI’s shear test equipment is used for installation in a dynamic asphalt tester for shear test on asphalt cores of 150 mm diameter according to a method developed by VTI. The method determines the shear modulus and phase angel of asphalt mixes. This is done by measuring shear deformation with strain gauges during vertical and horizontal loading on a cylindrical asphalt specimen glued to two steel loading disks. An adhesion rig is included to guarantee that the loading disks are parallel.

VTI’s drop cone apparatus is a high precision equipment for geotechnical testing of stability and yield point for clay and other fi ne graded soil material. A set of standard cones (weight and angel) and two different bowls are included.

This equipment is used for glueing sensors onto cylindrical asphalt mixture specimens. It is suited for testing according to the EN 12697-24 annex E. The fixture ensures symmetric and linear installation of strain and displacement sensors for functional testing.

VTI’s loading beam is a test equipment that is applied between the asphalt test specimen and the pressure cylinders during dynamic tests according to the SS-EN 12697-24 annex E. The loading beam ensures even transferred load from the pressure cylinder onto the specimen. The load beam is designed for the radius of 100 mm cylinder specimen or 150 mm cylinder specimen alternative.
