NEEVE results presented on the European Aerosol Conference

At the European Aerosol Conference (EAC), Tawfiq Al Wasif from CIEMAT presented our latest work on non-exhaust emissions, focusing on particles from brake wear.

As exhaust emissions decrease, particles generated during braking have become a significant source of air pollution in urban environments.

In this study, we measured brake particles directly under real driving conditions to compare two different pad formulations.

Using advanced techniques such as particle size measurements (EEPS) and electron microscopy (TEM/EDS), we observed significant differences in both the number size distributions and chemical composition of the emitted particles.

Our results show that the choice of pad material has a major impact – not only on braking performance and durability - but also on the environmental impact of non-exhaust emissions.
