An article by Professor Anders Nordelöf has been awarded Best Paper at the international electromobility exhibition EVS38.

EVS (The International Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exhibition) is the world’s largest electric vehicle conference, bringing together academia, industry, and the public sector since 1969 to drive development in e-mobility. From 16 to 18 June, the exhibition was held in Sweden for the first time, in Gothenburg.

On the final day of the conference, an article authored by Anders Nordelöf and Anita Bongards from the German company BorgWarner was named “Best Lecture Paper.”

“It is gratifying to receive confirmation that my research is relevant to the broader development of electromobility and that it is regarded as high quality in an international comparison,” says Anders Nordelöf.

The article examines the effects of methodological choices in life cycle analysis of value chains where the same process step produces more than one product — that is, when multiple products have overlapping life cycles. One example is the extraction and processing of rare earth metals, which often occur together in the mineral from which they are extracted.

In the study, Anders Nordelöf and Anita Bongards investigate how fluctuating prices influence demand, and consequently the environmental impact, for different products along the entire value chain. Two examples are neodymium oxide and electric motors with neodymium-based magnets.
