The object of this paper is to compare and analyze the road safety and traffic behavior of road users in selected countries - Estonia, Finland,

Czech Republic, Hungary, United States of America and the Russian Federation during the last period. The United States has the highest motorization ratio in the world and, together with Finland, the highest road safety characteristics. The Czech Republic and Hungary have many similarities because of their involvement in the former socialist block and relatively moderate road safety level; while Estonia and the Russian Federation were incorporated in the former USSR until the early 1990s, thus road safety characteristics should be much improved.
