Brake and noise testing

We perform brake testing and noise testing on private cars and light lorries with a maximum total weight of 3.5 tonnes and which have been directly imported for personal use from countries outside of the EU.

The test yields a report which indicates whether or not the vehicle meets legal requirements. For the registration inspection of directly imported vehicles, this report, which shows that the vehicle has undergone and passed brake testing and noise testing, is required.

Brake testing

VTI performs brake testing on private cars and light lorries in accordance with EU Directive 71/320/EEC.

The testing includes:

  • braking at full speed with service weight and total weight
  • braking with decreased effect of the braking systems
  • repeated braking (brake fade)
  • checking the secondary brake (handbrake).

So that the testing may be carried out correctly, safely and effectively, it is necessary that:

  • the vehicle is delivered to the test location specified by VTI
  • the vehicle's brakes have been serviced and are in good condition
  • the vehicle has a full tank of fuel
  • there are no loose objects in the vehicle.

Following a passed test, the report is sent to the client.

Noise testing

VTI performs noise testing on private cars in accordance with EU Directive 70/157/EEG.

The testing involves measuring the noise level of the vehicle, both in motion and when stationary.

  • the vehicle is delivered to the test location specified by VTI
  • the exhaust system and engine have been serviced and are in good condition
